During last year’s Marlborough in Bloom, nerves were heightened due to the addition of a TV crew following the preparations and judging of the annual competition. Production company Electric Ray, commissioned by the BBC were covering the overall preparations by the Marlborough in Bloom team, as well as focusing on three of the entries for the In Your Neighbourhood (IYN) awards. The Waterfront Garden, Stonebridge Wild River Reserve and Alma Place were the featured areas.
With the broadcast of the programme imminent, I spoke to Val Compton of the Waterfront Garden to see what she thought of it. “At first it was quite terrifying, the idea of being on TV, but the crew were lovely and put us at our ease.” said Val, “They came several times in the run up to judging, and for the judging itself. It was interesting to see what was involved in the making of a programme. Having a mike on all through the judging was a bit nerve wracking, as it made me very self-conscious of what I was saying! Overall though, I thoroughly enjoyed taking part and I’m looking forward to seeing how the programme has been put together, it should be a great advert for Marlborough”
You can watch the Marlborough episode of Britain in Bloom on Saturday 13 April On BBC2 at 5pm, (Note date has changed from that published earlier) and after that on the BBC iPlayer.
